The Rambutan Totem

The Rambutan is a small fruit mostly found in South East Asia in the Archipelago and Hawaii. It is characterized by its unique form of long reddish spines, which look deceiving sharp, but which are really very soft and flexible. Inside this exotic, protective, shell lays a sweet, succulent fruit, with opaque white flesh and a distinctive taste. Rambut means “hairy” in Malay.

The Rambutan is closely related to the Lychee and has many similar characteristics. The fruit inside is very similar in shape, appearance and taste.  The Rambutan, however, with its distinctive outer wrapping, is a very attractive and interesting fruit; setting it apart from the Lychee and making it unique. Like the Lychee it has a brown seed at the center which is easily discarded. However, the seed is used in its native growing environment to make oils for cooking, cosmetics and soap production.

The Rambutan has many medicinal properties and the roots, leaves and bark are used for a variety of ailments, including would healing, restorative tea, and eye infection wash. This fruit is rarely sold and grown in the United States and Europe. It is relatively unheard of in these areas; however, it is highly sought after and grown in tropical regions.

The Distinct Rambutan Totem possesses the following virtues:
Healing, sweetness of life, beauty, uniqueness, charm, luck, energy and inner wisdom and inner protection.

Rambutan Pearls are said to impart their particular magical virtues to their owner. Rambutan Pearls are characteristic of its host; they possess the unique characteristics that may be seen in the Rambutan itself; the mysteries of the “secret within” this fruit is contained within the pearl waiting for its proper owner to bestow its inner magic to that unique and fortunate individual.

The Rambutan totem is a sweet companion and aid in the quest for individual growth; inner wisdom and understanding of ones own internal power and uniqueness.
